We all at least profess to act ethically. But when faced with a difficult decision, what criteria and
process should you use to determine what action is ethical?

After you understand the five ethical approaches, you are ready to begin the Ethics Case
For Homework 2 you will critically analyze one case study, SCU Markkula Center for Applied
Ethics Case "Off the Clock" using the five ethical approaches discussed in the resources
provided. You will present your final analysis in a five-page paper (approximately 1200 words),
excluding the cover and reference page.
You should think of analysis as a process that builds on itself. Follow the steps below, knowing
that you might circle back and reevaluate your interpretation as you read and re-read the case
study with the various ethical approaches in mind.
In order to determine the exact nature of the ethical issue, you must: 1. Identify the stakeholders and determine whether some stakeholders are more important. 2. Determine whether all stakeholders have been consulted. 3. Describe the possible actions of the Sarah. 4. Evaluate each of the possible actions in light of the five ethical approaches discussed in
Module 3 (The Utilitarian Approach, the Rights Approach, The Justice Approach, The Common
Good Approach, The Virtue Approach). 5. Identify the best possible option and justify your choice, with reference to the ethical
approach on which you base your choice.
Present youR final analysis in an APA style paper with the structure given below. 1. Cover Sheet 2. Introduction 3. Begin by clearly identifying the ethical issues. 4. Include a thesis statement that contains your main argument. 5. Supporting (Body) Paragraphs 6. Define each of the five ethical approaches. You need to evaluate each of these approaches
to determine the appropriate ethical approach to evaluate this case. 7. Keep in mind the ‘one idea to one paragraph’ rule: each supporting paragraph should
contain one idea and its supporting details. If you start writing about a new idea, you need to
begin a new paragraph. 8. Make sure each body paragraph has a topic sentence that holds the main point of the
paragraph and that directly supports the thesis statement. 9.
Write a conclusion that clearly summarizes and ends the paper. Do not introduce new
topics in the conclusion.
